Here’s the scoop: An ice cream shop is the first announced tenant for a new retail center being developed in the Columbia area.

Scoop of Heaven Homemade Ice Cream is the first tenant for Spears Creek Plaza at 565 Spears Creek Church Road in Elgin, just northeast of Columbia, according to a recent release and social media post from commercial real estate firm Trinity Partners.

The retail plaza is expected to be ready in the second quarter of this year, the release said.

Scoop of Heaven is a “new premium ice cream concept” founded by Suzanne Pucci and Bill McDaniels, the real estate firm said. Trinity brokered the lease between the shop and Spears Creek Plaza ownership.

The plaza is an 8,700-square-foot “high end” retail center, per the release.

The new center is along a busy roadway, as more than 11,000 cars per day pass down that stretch of Spears Creek Church Road, per state Department of Transportation data. There are a number of businesses nearby, as well as Pontiac Elementary School. The Woodcreek Farms neighborhood and the Columbia Fire Station No. 4 also are nearby.
