A brewery that has proved popular in Cayce is exploring a new concept location in Columbia.

Steel Hands Brewing, which has a location at 2350 Foreman St. in Cayce, as well as a Greensboro, N.C. spot, has issued its intent to apply for alcohol licenses at 705-A Gervais St. in Columbia’s Vista district. That address was formerly home to Twisted Spur Brewing, which has been closed for some time.

There was a notice of application in The State’s Wednesday newspaper which said Steel Hands Brewing LLC intends to apply for on-premises alcohol licenses and permits with the S.C. Department of Revenue for the Gervais Street spot.

Details on the would-be project were scarce when a reporter reached out to Steel Hands on Thursday.

“We’re not at a point where we are ready to release any details, but we’re excited for this new Steel Hands concept to arrive,” Steel Hands marketing and business development director Ashley Lambert said in an email. “We look forward to disclosing more information in the future.”

Steel Hands opened its expansive Cayce brewery and taproom in 2018 on Foreman Street, just east of 12th Street Extension. Then, in 2022, it opened a location in Greensboro, N.C., on West Gate City Boulevard.

The Cayce Steel Hands is a 10,000-square-foot facility that boasts a 2,500-square-foot taproom. There is ample outdoor space, and the spot includes a full-service restaurant. Steel Hands notes on its website that it has 900 barrels of beer fermentation capacity in its Cayce brewhouse, and it keeps a host of its own in-house beers on-tap.

The spot at 705-A Gervais St. is in the heart of the Vista entertainment and hospitality district. Other nearby businesses include City Grit restaurant and culinary store, Grill Marks burger spot, Craft Axe Throwing and Tsunami Japanese restaurant, among others.
