A restaurant that has long been known in the Midlands for food with Asian and Latin flair has set an opening date for a new downtown Lexington location.

TakoSushi will open its doors Thursday, Sept. 5, at 102-C W. Main St. That’s in the heart of downtown Lexington, near the intersection of Main and Church streets. TakoSushi is owned by the Food People Restaurant Group, and has eight locations across South Carolina and Georgia. Other Midlands locations include a spot on Main Street in Columbia and one on Forest Drive in Forest Acres.

“Lexington isn’t just a new location for us — it’s home,” TakoSushi co-owner Chris Sullivan said in a statement. “Many of our team members, myself included, are Lexington locals. We’ve had a front row seat to the town’s incredible growth, especially the development along Main Street. Seeing this close-knit community embrace a wide variety of cuisines inspired us to add TakoSushi’s flavors to the mix.”

The core of downtown Lexington continues to be a bustling hub for shops, restaurants and more. Popular downtown eateries include O’Hara’s Public House, Keg Cowboy, Bodhi Thai Dining, Groucho’s Deli, Barrio, Craft Axe Throwing, Cribb’s, Bubba’s Biscuit, Libby’s, and Nicky’s Pizzeria. There are also a host of stores, such as Craig Reagin Clothiers and The Kindred Boutique, among others.

TakoSushi is one of a trio of restaurants set to open on the northwest corner of Main and Church streets. Voodoo Brewing Company and Molto Vino wine bar also have announced plans to locate there.

“Lexington’s warm and friendly atmosphere really resonates with us and aligns perfectly with our approach to hospitality,” TakoSushi co-owner James Williams said in a statement. “We look forward to TakoSushi being a place where families and friends can gather, make memories and enjoy great food together.”

From Sept. 5 through Sept. 8, the first 25 guests each day at the new Lexington location will receive free queso for a year, TakoSushi said in a release.

The new restaurant will have seating for 60 inside and seating for 48 outside, the company said.
