Body found after fire’s extinguished at apartment complex, South Carolina coroner says
A body was found Sunday after a fire at an apartment building was extinguished, according to the Greenwood County Coroner’s Office.
The coroner’s office is expected to publicly identify the victim after the next of kin has been notified.
The victim was found after the fire at Cambridge Apartments in the 200 block of East Cambridge Avenue was put out Sunday afternoon, the coroner’s office said. The victim was pronounced dead at 1:11 p.m., according to the coroner’s office.
Neither the cause nor manner of death has been announced by the coroner’s office. Foul play is not suspected in the death, according to the coroner’s office.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word about the extent of the damage caused by the fire, if the apartment building was considered a total loss or if any other residents have been displaced.
Information about the cause of the fire was not available, but the blaze is being investigated by the coroner’s office as well as the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office.
