A sandwich shop near downtown Columbia is being sold, could close. Here’s what we know
A Columbia restaurant that serves an increasingly popular Vietnamese sandwich is up for sale, and could close if it doesn’t find a buyer.
Banh Mi Boys, which is located at 625 Whaley St. across from the sprawling Olympia Mills apartments, announced on social media that it is for sale.
“We still believe wholeheartedly in what we’ve created,” the restaurant wrote. “With more time, we know it could have grown into something even greater. But right now, it’s simply not the right time for us. We’ll continue operating as much as we can in our usual manner for about the next two months, so if you want to savor our full menu one last time — or try it for the first time — now’s your chance.
“If we don’t find a buyer within this timeframe, we’ll likely have to close our doors.”
Banh Mi Boys is a small restaurant chain that started in the New Orleans area. The Columbia location opened in June 2023 and has specialized in Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches, po’ boys and more.
The Whaley Street restaurant is one of several banh mi spots that have opened in Columbia in the last couple years. along with Little Bee Bun Mee in Cayce, Paris Banh Mi in northeast Columbia, and Pho & Banh Mi in West Columbia.
Banh Mi Boys said in its social media post that it does not yet have a buyer for the Whaley Street spot, and that interested parties can contact Jaymes at info@banhmiboyscolumbia.com.
“Thank you for all of your support,” the restaurant wrote. “We hope to see you soon before we say goodbye.”
