A well-known national gym brand is opening a spot in this growing area of Lexington
The Judgement Free Zone is coming to the western part of Lexington.
Planet Fitness, the well-known fitness company with locations across the U.S., will open a new gym at 760 U.S. 378 in Lexington. That location was formerly home to a Piggly Wiggly grocery store. The Piggly Wiggly there closed in 2023.
The shopping center where Planet Fitness will be also includes the China King and Ramblin’ Mule restaurants.
An opening date for the gym at 760 U.S. 378 has not yet been announced. In a recent Facebook post from Planet Fitness touting the coming debut, the company replied to a commenter’s question about the opening, noting it would be “very soon.”
Planet Fitness has more than 2,400 locations across the U.S., according to data site ScrapeHero. There are a host of the fitness clubs in the Midlands, including spots in Columbia, Cayce, Lexington, Camden, Orangeburg and Sumter.
The Planet Fitness brand has continued to make moves in the Columbia and Lexington area in the last couple of years. For instance, a new location opened at 2410 Augusta Road in West Columbia in June 2024, and a location opened at 238 Harbison Blvd. in the Irmo area in late 2023.
The Planet Fitness at 760 U.S. 378 will be near a number of businesses and landmarks. A Publix shopping center is directly across the road, and Lexington High School is about a mile to the south. About 19,000 cars per day travel down that stretch of U.S. 378, per state Department of Transportation statistics.
