Chances of snow have increased for parts of South Carolina next week, the latest forecasts show.

According to the National Weather Service, a mass of cold air is set to arrive in South Carolina on Sunday and settle over the state for much of next week. The air mass may generate some of the coldest temperatures of the season in the state. The NWS has also grown increasingly confident in recent days that most of South Carolina will see some snowfall on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“But exactly how impactful any of that wintry precipitation is has yet to be seen,” NWS Meteorologist Matt Gropp said in a Friday weather briefing on YouTube.

Note that all weather forecasts are subject to change throughout the week.

SC Snow chances

Midlands

As of Friday evening, the NWS predicted a 30% chance of snow by late afternoon on Tuesday. Expect that chance of snow to rise to 40% Tuesday evening. Lesser chances for snow are expected on Wednesday.

“Chances for snow and/or wintry mix are increasing along and south of I-20,” the NWS states. “Typical uncertainty continues over any possible specific amounts or impacts.”

Upstate

Residents living in the Upstate should expect slightly less potential snow chances.

The NWS calls for a 30% chance of snow from late afternoon through the evening on Tuesday. There’s little to no chance of snow on Wednesday.

Lowcountry and Pee Dee region

Oddly, the Lowcountry and Pee Dee region currently have greater chances of snow next week.

For instance, the NWS predicts a 40% chance of snow in the Myrtle Beach area on Tuesday, with that increasing to 60% during the evening. There is also a 20% chance of snow on Wednesday.

And down in Charleston, the NWS forecasts similar chances of snowfall.

Freezing temperatures

South Carolina faces below-average temperatures basically all next week, forecasts show.

Most of South Carolina can expect highs in the 30s and lows in the low 20s Monday through Thursday. However, those in the Upstate will likely suffer through lows in the teens Monday through Thursday, the NWS states.
