2 big Midlands music festivals show off lineups; Columbia theater welcoming R&B, rock acts
Highlighting the Midlands concerts announced in January are the lineups for two big music festivals, one that will take place for the first time after postponing in 2024 and another that’s pushing through its fourth decade.
The inaugural Field & Stream Music Fest, which had to call off its 2024 date due to impacts from Hurricane Helene, will give it another go Oct. 3-5 at Carolina Adventure World in Winnsboro, about 45 minutes north of Columbia off Interstate 77. Eric Church, who co-owns the festival’s namesake outdoors website with fellow country superstar Morgan Wallen, remains among the headliners. He’ll be joined by a slate chock-full of country heavy-hitters, with Miranda Lambert, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Riley Green, and Bailey Zimmerman all hanging around the top of the lineup. Tickets are available now.
March will bring back one of Columbia’s most reliable chances for outdoor frivolity in St. Pat’s in Five Points, which is set for March 15. Tribute acts are prominent on this year’s lineup, as Badfish (a Sublime cover band that began releasing some original music a couple years ago) is among the headliners, while a trio of other cover groups are high on the under card (Elizabeth as Taylor doing Taylor Swift, Mr. Fahrenheit doing Queen, and Bernie Love doing Elvis). Longstanding jam band Lettuce and rising bands representing country (Shane Smith and the Saints) and indie rock (The Stews) also are among the headliners. Tickets are available now.
The Township Auditorium, Columbia’s largest theater space, announced a spate of shows last month, leaning heavy on R&B and rock, with some throwbacks and some newer artists. The Isley Brothers are slated for March 8, Three Dog Night for April 4, October London and Tamar Braxton for April 27, JJ Grey & Mofro and Marshall Tucker Band for May 21. Tickets for all these shows are on sale now.
The Senate, Columbia’s large rock club, also announced some high-profile additions to its calendar in January. Metalcore acts Silent Planet and Invent Animate share a dual-headline bill on May 15, each band performing the album it released in 2023 in full, while infamously theatrical metal mainstay Gwar returns to the club on May 16. Shovels & Rope, the Charleston duo which recently parted ways with the Highwater Music Festival it helped found, teams with another popular Americana act in Langhorne Slim for an “intimate evening” on March 29. “Jersey Shore” alum and DJ Pauly D performs at the club on March 6. Tickets for all these shows are on sale now.
