‘Hola Amigos!’ A new taco restaurant has opened in one Columbia’s key dining districts
A new spot for Mexican fare has debuted in downtown Columbia.
Taco Mundo Kitchen y Cantina recently opened at 828 Gervais St. in the heart of the Vista nightlife and entertainment district. The spot at 828 Gervais previously was home to Liberty Tap Room for about two decades.
Taco Mundo Kitchen y Cantina and Liberty Tap Room are both restaurant concepts owned by Charleston’s Homegrown Hospitality Group. The group owns other nearby restaurants in the Vista, including Pearlz Oyster Bar and Kaminsky’s dessert shop. Homegrown announced last year that the Liberty space on Gervais would be converted to a Taco Mundo.
Homegrown Hospitality also owns a Liberty Tap Room location on Lake Murray that is currently closed for renovations with plans to reopen in the spring. Liberty on the Lake recently posted on Facebook that it is hiring for that location.
“Hola Amigos!” read a banner across the top of Taco Mundo’s website on Wednesday morning. “Taco Mundo in the Vista is now open!” The company also touted the Columbia debut on Instagram and Facebook.
Taco Mundo Kitchen y Cantina offers a deep menu of Mexican favorites, including tacos, nachos, fajitas, Mexican street corn dip, churros and more.. They also have a thorough drink menu, with margaritas, tequila, wine, cocktails, beer and more.
There currently is also Taco Mundo Kitchen y Cantina location in North Myrtle Beach.
