A new spot for chicken has hit Five Points.

Cocky Rooster, a small-but-growing chain with roots in Virginia, recently opened a new location at 2019 Devine St. in Columbia. The restaurant announced the opening in Friday posts on Instagram and Facebook.

“Cocky in Columbia!,” the restaurant posted on Instagram. “#columbiasc your @cockyrooster_ is officially OPEN! Join us at 2019 Devine Street in @fivepointssc. The wait is finally over!”

The menu at Cocky Rooster includes chicken wings, tenders, sandwiches, french fries and more. The restaurant also has a host of sauces, including honey mustard barbecue, truffled Buffalo, garlic Parmesan and Korean barbecue, among others.

The Five Points location of the chicken restaurant is in the spaces that formerly were home to Sushi Yoshi and Carolina Barber Shop. The restaurant has a slogan posted along one of its walls: “Cluck Around and Find Out.”

The Cocky Rooster debut is part of a sudden spate of openings in Five Points, the longstanding urban village east of downtown Columbia.

For instance, Luna Kitchen, a Chinese restaurant featuring an authentic menu and traditional favorites, opened its doors in recent days at 724 Harden St.

Five Points also recently welcomed Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks at 942-B Harden St. The burgeoning Atlanta-based chain has welcomed lines of customers to its shop on the upper end of the neighborhood.

On the retail side, popular women’s clothier Copper Penny opened a new boutique on March 12 at 743 Saluda Avenue, next door to Bang Back Pinball Lounge. Copper Penny also has locations in Charleston, Greenville and elsewhere.
