Restaurant Roundup: Columbia eatery plans a Charlotte location + Banh Mi Boys for sale
A popular, multi-faceted downtown Columbia restaurant is planning another location in Charlotte.
Market on Morehead, from the team behind Columbia’s Market on Main, plans to open in Charlotte, along the Carson Station Light Rail. The Charlotte venue could open in December, according to a social media post from Market on Morehead.
The Market on Morehead website says says the establishment will be only four blocks from Bank of America Stadium, where the NFL’s Carolina Panthers play, and three light rail stops from Spectrum Center, home of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets.
Columbia’s Market on Main opened in December 2019 and has been a busy spot for brunch, lunch, dinner and cocktails, and is well known for its outdoor dining area that includes a jumbo screen where customers often gather to watch University of South Carolina ballgames and more.
The Charlotte Market on Morehead will be, according to a recent Instagram post from the company, “a one-stop playground for everything you love: gourmet eats, craft drinks, and nonstop live entertainment” that features “elevated Americana cuisine with global influences.”
The coming Charlotte location will also have a full bar, a 25-foot Jumbotron for watching games, a pet-friendly patio, indoor and outdoor stages for live music and private dining spaces, among other amenities.
Columbia’s Banh Mi Boys officially for sale
A Columbia restaurant that specializes in Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches is formally for sale and could be in the waning days in its current iteration.
Banh Mi Boys, located at 625 Whaley St. across from the sprawling Olympia Mills apartments announced the latest development in a March 28 Facebook post.
“We’ve held on as long as we could, longer than anticipated, pouring our hearts into every sandwich, every service, and every interaction with this amazing community,” the restaurant posted. “But now, the end is truly near.”
The restaurant noted it is listed for sale with agent Nghiep Nguyen and inquiries about buying the business should go through him. The post noted prospective buyers could continue the business as Banh Mi Boys or create something new in the space.
“We’ll continue serving you in our usual way for as long as we can, but time is short,” Banh Mi Boys Columbia posted. “If you’ve been meaning to stop by, don’t wait. Come see us, grab your favorites, and share one more meal with us before we say goodbye.”
The Whaley Street restaurant first began overtures about a sale back in December. Banh Mi Boys is a small chain that started in the New Orleans area.
Alert: Bojangles’ has strawberry cobbler
Sure, you love a good Bojangles’ Bo Berry Biscuit. But are you ready for some Bojangles strawberry cobbler?
The famed Southern chicken chain recently launched the cobbler, which, according to a release, “features Bojangles’ signature scratch-made buttermilk biscuit, layered with warm strawberry topping and drizzled with sweet icing.”
The strawberry confection is available for a limited time, and the company says it’s “the latest addition to Bojangles’ year-long cobbler lineup, proving that 2025 is the year of seasonal cobblers.”
That’s exactly the way I’m going to choose to remember 2025: as the year of seasonal cobblers.
