Whataburger is set to open its newest Midlands restaurant. Here’s when and where
A fast-growing burger chain is set to open a new location in the Midlands.
Whataburger, the Texas-based chain with locations across the U.S., will open a new store at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10 at 5440 Platt Springs Road in the Red Bank area of Lexington County. That’s near the intersection of Platt Springs Road and S. Lake Drive.
This will be the second Whataburger location in Lexington, following the February opening of a unit at 888 S. Lake Drive.
According to the company, the new store at 5440 Platt Springs “pays respect to Whataburger’s storied history while looking to the future with a forward-thinking design.” The Red Bank spot will have a double drive-thru, a spacious dining room, digital menu boards and a mural inside that “features South Carolina iconography with Lexington splashed across the wall,” per the company.
Belinda Martinez is the operator of the Platt Springs Road Whataburger, which will employ 85 people, the company noted. The first two customers in the drive-thru lane and first two customers in line for the dining room on April 10 will receive “free Whataburger for a year,” the restaurant said. The first 100 people to arrive will get a free honey butter chicken biscuit, while the next 100 will get “special Whataburger swag.”
This will mark the fourth Midlands Whataburger location, following the September 2024 opening of a location in Irmo, the November 2024 debut of a location on Bridgeberry Lane in northeast Columbia, and February’s opening on South Lake Drive.
There are about 1,100 Whataburger locations in the U.S., per data site ScrapeHero. The national chain is separate from the locally owned What-A-Burger in West Columbia.
Whataburger is open 24 hours per day, 364 days a year. They are closed on Christmas.
