As warmer weather approaches, a new place for cool treats is making its way to a well-known shopping center near Columbia.

16 Handles, which has frozen yogurt shops across numerous states, will open a location in Trenholm Plaza at 4840 Forest Drive suite 19 in Forest Acres. There is a poster hanging in the window at the storefront announcing that 16 Handles is coming, and the shop is listed as “coming soon” on the 16 Handles website.

According to the company’s website, the Trenholm Plaza location is one of three on the way as the chain makes its way into South Carolina, with stores in Charleston and Myrtle Beach also listed as “coming soon.”

“This isn’t just any frozen yogurt; it’s a masterpiece of flavors, toppings, and ultimate creativity,” 16 Handles Forest Acres said in a recent Facebook post. “Whether you’re a cookie crumble connoisseur or a fruit-tastic fanatic, we’ve got you covered with endless possibilities!”

An opening date for 16 Handles hasn’t been publicly announced. The sweet shop is going into a space that was formerly occupied by Verde salad restaurant. The salad spot, which opened in 2019, closed in December.

Trenholm Plaza has remained a reliably popular shopping center in Forest Acres, featuring a Publix, a Fresh Market, a Tazza Kitchen restaurant, a Chicken Salad Chick location, a J. Crew Factory store and much more. About 28,000 cars per day travel down nearby Forest Drive, per state Department of Transportation statistics.
