Cayce has announced upcoming road closures in and around the Avenues neighborhood as workers move forward with a city drainage project to alleviate flooding risk.

Starting the week of June 30, workers will redirect traffic on State Street to accommodate construction material deliveries. The city advises drivers to follow all temporary traffic signs and stay alert.

During the week of July 7, closures will begin for through traffic on portions of State Street and Indigo Avenue. The portion of State Street runs along the front of Brookland-Cayce High School. These streets will be open to local traffic only, and a detour will be available, the city posted.

Starting July 14, the main entrance to the Cayce Riverwalk on 201 Naples Avenue will be closed for construction of a new storm water culvert. The construction follows a sewer overflow on Memorial Day weekend that caused several thousand gallons to significantly erode the boardwalk area. This closure is expected to continue into the tail end of the year.

Alternative riverwalk access will be available on 321 Lyles St., with parking at 1908 State St., as well as at Thomas Newman Public Boat Landing at the end of Granby Landing Road.

Drivers can find information on the city’s plans and future closures on a new website dedicated to the drainage project.
