Strong storms and heavy rain will be the main threats to parts of the Midlands Thursday afternoon, forecasts show.

According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms will likely start between 1 to 3 p.m., but become more widespread between 3 and 5 p.m. Damaging winds and hail will be possible with the strongest storms today.

Heavy rain from the storms will lead to some nuisance flooding, particularly in poor drainage areas, the NWS states.

Isolated areas of flash flooding will also be possible, mostly this evening, with between 2 inches and 4 inches of water in some spots.

Places that had heavy rain on Wednesday will be more susceptible to flooding today.
