Will rain ruin Labor Day weekend in SC or will cooler weather prevail? Here’s the forecast
And here we are, Labor Day weekend already, the unofficial end of summer, and across South Carolina the weather is shaping up to be not so bad.
“Not bad at all,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Landolfi. “We’ll take it.”
What he means is temperatures across the state should be lower than average, thanks to a cold front moving in and the only burr are some isolated showers, specifically around the Savannah River basin and in the Lowcountry.
The National Weather Service is predicting for the Midlands on Saturday, a slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 84, low around 66 on Saturday Night.
Sunday will be similar.
Then comes Labor Day when it gets gorgeous. Mostly sunny, with a high near 82, lows around 63.
Average temperature for the Midlands is 89 for Labor Day weekend.
If you’re going to the coast, temperatures are expected to be lower than average as well, low to mid 80s , with lows around 69 on Monday. There is a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m., decreasing to 30% Monday night.
Average temperature is 88-89.
Labor Day in the Upstate will also bring lower than average temperatures — high 70s to low 80s — quite low compared to the 87 degree average. The low will be around 62. There is a chance of isolated showers.
“It’s hard to ask for much better weather around here for Labor Day weekend,” Landolfi said.
