A popular Columbia market and deli is adding a “mini” location near the University of South Carolina.

Rosewood Mini Market, an offshoot of the Rosewood Market that has long been on Rosewood Drive, is coming this fall to 601 Main St. suite B, near the intersection of Main and Blossom streets.

The coming mini market was detailed in a recent post on the Rosewood Market website, and there is a sign hanging in the window at 601 Main that says the mini market is “coming soon” and touting “healthy grab & go” items. An opening date has not been publicly announced.

The “mini” store, Rosewood Market’s second location, is going into the Main Street space that formerly was home to The Corner Blend smoothie shop, which closed earlier this summer.

“Think of it as your neighborhood grab-and-go stop, perfect for busy days in the heart of the city,” Rosewood Market said of the coming mini market on its website. “Whether you’re commuting to work, strolling through downtown, or heading to class, you’ll be able to pop in for healthy snacks, drinks, and essentials — all with the same Rosewood quality you trust.”

The Rosewood Market at 2803 Rosewood Drive has been known for its produce, grocery items, lunch deli, wine selection and more.

Cheesesteak shop with Columbia location adds ‘Spicy Jawn’ for a limited time

A cheesesteak restaurant chain that added a Columbia location earlier this year has introduced a spicy new item.

Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks, an Atlanta-based company started by a Philadelphia native CEO Derrick Hayes, opened a location at 942-B Harden St. in Five Points in March. Recently the company began offering a special sandwich for a limited time.

On Sept. 3 Big Dave’s debuted the Spicy Jawn, noting in a release that it is an offering where “seasoned halal steak meets sautéed onions and hot peppers, layered with White American and Provolone cheeses, then finished with a signature jalapeño ketchup that brings the perfect kick.”

Big Dave’s is also offering “crib chips” for a limited time. Those are house-made lattice potato chips that are topped with the shop’s signature seasoning. The special items are available until Nov. 11.
