Columbia Craft Brewing Company has closed its taproom, located just outside the Vista, owners announced on social media Monday.

The brewery and taproom, which opened its doors in Columbia in 2017, will continue to produce and distribute beer throughout the state, but its taproom at 520 Greene St. is closed. Owners cited “rising costs, shifting consumer habits and increased competition” in their decision to shut down.

“While the decision to close our taproom doors effective immediately wasn’t easy, we’re proud of the years we spent building community here in Columbia and grateful for everyone who supported us along the way,” the social media post read.

Columbia Craft is the second brewery taproom in Columbia to announce its immediate closure in the last two weeks, after Iron Hill Brewery in the BullStreet District closed after the company filed for bankruptcy.

Richard Strauss and his sons founded Columbia Craft in 2017 and joined forces with Peak Drift Brewing Company to create a parent company called Craft Brew Inc. in February 2024. Since Columbia Craft’s taproom opened in 2017, the area that surrounds it has had beautification projects completed and owners of the taproom added an upstairs rooftop bar.
