A new restaurant with a host of Japanese flavors has opened its doors in Irmo.

Sumo Sushi & Hibachi recently debuted at 1100 Dutch Fork Road suite H in Irmo. The business has touted the opening on its social media channels.

“Taste the tradition, feel the passion!” the new restaurant posted on Instagram. “We are Sumo Sushi & Hibachi Grill Irmo, ready to serve you.”

The menu at Sumo includes nearly three dozen different types of sushi rolls. That includes the special Rainbow Roll, which is a California roll topped with tuna, salmon, shrimp and avocado. There are also deep fried rolls, such as the Godzilla Roll that comes with spicy tuna and avocado, topped with snow crab, spicy mayo and eel sauce.

They also have a host of hibachi plates, including teriyaki chicken, shrimp, steak, white fish and others, which come with fried rice and vegetables.

Sumo Sushi & Hibachi is located in an increasingly busy commercial corridor along Dutch Fork Road, west of Interstate 26 near Ballentine. It is in a shopping strip that also includes a Pizza Hut, a Cocobowlz, an El Charro Mexican restaurant, a Verizon store and a number of other businesses. A Walmart Supercenter is next door, and an Aldi grocery store and a Whataburger are across the street.

Nearly 28,000 cars per day travel down that section of Dutch Fork Road, according to data from the S.C. Department of Transportation, an increase from the roughly 25,000 cars per day that traversed the road in 2022.
