A well-known national clothing store is planning a store in a popular Columbia shopping area.

Burlington, which has stores across the U.S. and is known for discount prices, is planning a store at 136-B Harbison Blvd., according to various permits filed with the city of Columbia. There also are job listings online for a new Burlington store manager position at 136 Harbison.

The Burlington would be located in the Columbiana Station shopping center that hosts a number of national businesses. It would be located between a recently opened Sierra outdoors store that’s addressed at 136-A Harbison Blvd. and a popular Target store. Construction was ongoing at the site when a reporter went by Wednesday.

Other retailers in that section of Columbiana Station include Old Navy, TJ Maxx, Rack Room Shoes and Publix, among others.

Burlington has made moves in the Midlands in recent years. It has long had a store at the Dutch Square Center mall in Columbia. The company opened a store on Sunset Boulevard in Lexington in 2023, and it is set to open a new location at 6880 Garners Ferry Road in Columbia on Nov. 1.

The company carries clothing for men, women and kids, as well as personal care products, home office goods, some electronics and more. It was formerly known as “Burlington Coat Factory” but has now been known simply as Burlington for a number of years.

The Harbison area has remained perhaps Columbia’s most prominent shopping district, lined with big box retailers, smaller stores, restaurants, bars, movie theaters, hotels, the Columbiana Centre mall and more. About 28,000 cars per day travel down Harbison Boulevard, per S.C. Department of Transportation data.
