A Columbia store for outdoor apparel is set to close its doors. What we know
The Columbia location of a store that specializes in outdoors apparel, fly-fishing gear and more will close its doors as the company plans to shutter a number of locations nationally.
The Orvis store at 702 Cross Hill Road in Columbia, in the Cross Hill Market shopping center near Devine Street, is closing. There are signs in the windows at the location announcing a “store closing sale.” There is also a “store closing sale” banner on the Columbia location page of the Orvis website.
An exact closing date of the Columbia location hasn’t been publicly announced, though the company said in a recent Facebook post that the capital city location is closing “soon.” The store along Cross Hill Road opened almost exactly a year ago.
The move comes as Orvis plans to close three dozen locations across the U.S. before 2026, according to stories from national outlets such as USA Today and Fox Business. The company told USA Today the closures come amid an “unprecedented tariff landscape.” Orvis has about 70 retail stores nationwide.
Initially founded in 1856 and headquartered in Vermont, Orvis has long been a name in outdoor clothing, fly fishing gear, products for dogs and more.
The Cross Hill Market in Columbia remains a popular shopping center, with retailers including Whole Foods Market, Ulta, Midwood Smokehouse and Basil Thai Cuisine, among others.
