A new grocery store sets an opening date in this booming Lexington County area
A popular grocery store chain with locations across the South has set an opening date for a new store in a growing area of Lexington County.
Lowes Foods, a North Carolina-based chain, will open a new store on Nov. 6 at 5436 Platt Springs Road in the Platt Springs Crossing development in the Red Bank area, according to a spokesman for the company and posts on the store’s social media.
This will be the sixth Lowes Foods store in the Midlands, following locations on Forest Drive in Forest Acres, on Forum Drive in northeast Columbia, on Augusta Highway in Lexington, on Sunset Boulevard in Lexington and on Chapin Road in Chapin.
While the Lowes store on Platt Springs Road won’t open until Nov. 6, the company will have the S’Mores Wagon in the parking lot from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 30, where residents can get s’mores and have a chance to win prizes, Lowes said on Facebook.
Platt Springs Crossing is a sprawling, nearly 60-acre development that is rising from the dirt along Platt Springs Road not far from South Lake Drive. The $65 million mixed use development is bringing in restaurants and retail, plus 142 planned new townhomes. Among the businesses that already are open at the site are a Whataburger, a Chipotle, a Panda Express and a Prisma Health urgent care.
The Red Bank area in south central Lexington County has boomed in the last decade-plus, with scores of new restaurants, shops, big box stores, subdivisions, new schools and more. The area near the Platt Springs Crossing development is a high-traffic corridor, with more than 18,000 cars per day traveling down Platt Springs Road, per the state Department of Transportation stats, and more than 27,000 cars per day traversing South Lake Drive nearby.
