Columbia debut set for Guthrie’s chicken finger spot. An NFL star will be there
A growing chain for chicken fingers and more is set to open its first Columbia location, and a well-known NFL player and former University of South Carolina star is set to help with the debut.
Guthrie’s, the Alabama-based chain with locations across the South, will open a new location at 339 Generations Way, just off Hardscrabble Road, in northeast Columbia on Dec. 9, per a release from the company. This will mark the second Midlands location for Guthrie’s, which opened a spot on Mineral Springs Road in Lexington in April.
A ribbon-cutting for the new Columbia Guthrie’s will be at 4 p.m. Dec. 9, and Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette, a former standout at USC, will be on hand for the event. Legette will be available for photos after the ribbon cutting, but there will not be autographs at the event. Those in attendance can enter a raffle to win merchandise signed by Legette.
Guthrie’s was founded in Alabama in 1965, according to the company’s website. It currently has locations across the U.S., including spots in Alabama, Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi and elsewhere, per a store locator tool on its website.
The restaurant’s menu specializes in chicken fingers. It offers various combos that come with fried chicken fingers, crispy fries, creamy coleslaw, Texas toast, and Guthrie’s signature dipping sauce.
