Man killed more than 900 miles from his home in crash on I-95, SC officials say
One person died early Friday morning in a crash on a major interstate running through South Carolina.
Kevin Percy, a 63-year-old resident of Wrentham, Massachusetts, is the person who was killed in what was called an accident by Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle on Monday. Percy’s home is more than 900 miles from where the single-vehicle collision happened.
South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Brittany Glover said the wreck happened at about 4:25 a.m. Friday on Interstate 95 in Orangeburg County, near the 89 mile marker.
The Highway Patrol said a Penske box truck was traveling south on I-95 when it went off the right side of the road and struck a tree. Percy, who was the only occupant of the truck, died at the scene, Highway Patrol said.
Through Sunday, 822 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 28 people have died in Orangeburg County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 46 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
