100+ new jobs planned for Columbia area, after council approves tax incentives
Two companies will, combined, bring more than 100 new jobs to Lexington County, after county council signed off on tax incentives packages for both Tuesday night.
The projects, which would bring more than $22.8 million in investments, bring the total number of manufacturing tax incentives packages signed off on by the county council this year to seven.
Hoffman & Hoffman, a North Carolina-based ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) manufacturer, will consolidate its existing Lexington office and move to a new facility at 1 Southern Court in West Columbia. The council approved the company for special source revenue credits and, in return, the company is set to create 60 new jobs and invest $8.5 million. The company expects to open its new facility in the summer of 2026, according to a press release.
“Hoffman & Hoffman’s decision to grow here in Lexington County speaks volumes about the strength of our workforce and the confidence companies have in this community,” Todd Cullum, the county council chairman, said in a statement.
Another company, U.S. Venture, was also approved for incentives. The Wisconsin-based company that markets itself as a leader in “the distribution of petroleum and renewable energy products, lubricants, and tires and parts for the automotive industry,” will create 45 new jobs and invest $14.2 million.
For its investment, the county agreed to cap the company’s millage rate for decades and cut its assessment ratio from 10.5% to 6%, as is typical for manufacturing investments.
At least five other companies this year have announced plans to either move to the county or expand existing operations, with promises to bring at least 440 new manufacturing jobs to Lexington. The industry is the county’s third largest, behind only healthcare and retail.
