A new spot for breakfast and more has made its debut in a busy area of the Midlands.

Metro Diner, which has dozens of restaurants across the U.S., opened a new location on Monday, Jan. 12 at 106 Percival Road in Columbia near Forest Acres. The restaurant is located in the Jackson Square shopping center that also is home to a Wingstop, a Petco and other businesses.

The new diner is in a spot that formerly was home to a Panera Bread location. That Panera closed last summer.

There are Metro Diner locations in a number of states, including Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma, Delaware, Indiana and elsewhere. Other locations in South Carolina include spots in Aiken, Anderson, Charleston and Indian Land.

The menu at Metro Diner features a host of breakfast favorites, including omelets, avocado toast, pancakes, waffles and more, as well as burgers, sandwiches and appetizers. One of the keynote meals on the menu is the Bissell Breakfast, which has two eggs any style, bacon, toast, hash browns or grits, and a short stack of pancakes.

There is indoor seating for 114 people at the new Columbia Metro Diner location, and room for another 24 on the patio, according to a release from the company.

The Jackson Square shopping complex is located in a bustling area off Percival Road near Forest Drive, just east of Interstate 77 and the U.S. Army’s Fort Jackson training installation. Nearby businesses include a Walmart, a Chick-fil-A, a McDonald’s and more. About 29,000 cars per day travel down Forest Drive nearby, according to S.C. Department of Transportation traffic count data.
