A well-known national retailer is planning a store in this busy Lexington area
A national store known for tools and more is eyeing a location along a busy roadway in Lexington.
Harbor Freight, which has stores across the U.S., is planning a location at 732 W. Main St., according to the town of Lexington’s most recent planning and zoning action report. Proposed plans for the Harbor Freight are under review, according to the documents.
The store would be in the space that formerly was home to a Badcock furniture store in the Town Center shopping plaza. That shopping center is home to a number of businesses, including a Food Lion supermarket, a Wingstop restaurant, and Na’cho Margarita Mexican restaurant, among others.
Harbor Freight has more than 1,600 stores across the U.S., per data website Srapehero. That includes dozens of locations in South Carolina. The company opened a new location on the Augusta Highway in West Columbia in summer 2024.
The retailer carries a plethora of tools and hardware, including power tools, hand tools, air compressors, lawn and garden supplies, automotive tools, painting supplies, welding gear and more. Harbor Freight notes on social media that it carries more than 7,000 tools and accessories.
The tool store would be coming to a high-traffic area of Lexington. About 40,000 cars per day travel down that section of West Main Street, per state Department of Transportation data.
