A well-known restaurant in downtown Columbia has closed. What we know
A sandwich shop in the heart of downtown Columbia has closed its doors.
Sub Station II, which has restaurants across South Carolina and other states, has closed at 928 Main St. That’s in the shadow of the SC State House and near the campus of the University of South Carolina.
There is a sign in the front window of the shop that says it is “permanently closed,” and there is a note to customers on the front door that indicates the last day at the location was Jan. 30.
“Thank you, again, for all the love and support you have given us over these last two years,” the note reads. The Sub Station II at 928 Main St. first opened in Feb. 2024. It was located just south of the State House and about a block away from USC’s famed Horseshoe.
This marks the second bit of Sub Station II closure news recently. The chain’s location in the food court at the Columbiana Centre mall also has shuttered.
Sub Station II has shops in South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. Among the many other Midlands Sub Station II locations are shops in Irmo, Lexington and Cayce, and Columbia locations on Garners Ferry Road and the Village at Sandhill.
