Sub-freezing weather headed to Columbia again soon. Any snow chances? Here’s the forecast
Columbia had unusually warm temperatures this week, with highs nearly reaching 80 degrees. And today’s weather looks like it’ll be the warmest so far.
“Ahead of a cold front on Friday, temperatures are forecast to remain well above normal across the forecast area,” The National Weather Service of Columbia said in a Facebook post.
But don’t worry, freezing conditions are expected to come back to the area early next week. However, despite the chilly weather, snow isn’t part of the forecast.
Here’s the latest weather forecast for Columbia:
Columbia Friday forecast
Despite cloud coverage and breezy conditions, Friday will likely reach the hottest temperatures of the week. The low is 56 degrees, and the high is 81 degrees, according to The Weather Channel.
A cold front will make rain a likely possibility, though the chance decreases closer to night.
This weekend’s weather
On Saturday, there is a small chance for isolated severe weather, such as thunderstorms, in the southern Midlands. The cold front will increase chances of rain, especially by daybreak, and a low of 55 degrees and a high of 65 degrees is expected.
Sunday should start the dramatic temperature change. Sunday’s low is 29 degrees, and the high is 57 degrees.
Next week’s weather
A potent upper trough, which indicates cool, rising air, is expected to dominate the East Coast early next week, according to a Columbia National Weather Service forecast discussion.
“At the surface, a cold and dry air mass will move in behind the departing weekend system, with below normal temperatures favored,” the NWS meteorologists said.
Monday should be the coldest day of the week, with temperatures expected to drop to a low of 25 degrees and a high of 47 degrees. It might also be extra breezy on Monday, but winds will lessen as the week goes on.
Temperatures will likely get steadily warmer towards the middle of next week. Wednesday’s low will be 52 degrees, and the high is expected to reach 62 degrees.
Current forecasts show that temperatures should remain normal past next week.
