Growing area near Columbia to get a new location of a national hardware store
If you need to do some home repairs or lawn work, you’ll soon have a new spot for the gear you’ll need in a busy area near northeast Columbia.
Ace Hardware, which has locations across the U.S., will have a new store at Spears Creek Church Road and Two Notch Road in Elgin. It will be next door to the new Food Lion supermarket that opened in January at 10508 Two Notch Road in the Pontiac Towne Center development.
An opening date for the Ace store has not been publicly announced, but construction on the building was well underway when a reporter rode by this week. There is a large red banner at the property that says the Ace is “coming soon.”
Ace has long been well-known for offering hardware, paint, lawn care products, grills, power equipment and much more. There are more than 5,000 locally owned Ace stores across the U.S. and abroad, according to the company’s website. There are currently 10 Ace locations in the Midlands area, per a store locator tool on the Ace website.
The hardware store will be in a bustling thoroughfare, as more than 21,000 cars per day traverse that section of Two Notch Road, per state Department of Transportation data, with more than 10,000 cars per day traveling down Spears Creek Church Road nearby.
