A growing ice cream shop company known for its fresh dough cones has set an opening in the capital city.

Crispy Cones, which has locations in a number of states, will open on March 27 at 1204 Main St. in Columbia. That’s near the South Carolina State House and the Moxy Hotel.

“COLUMBIA… YOUR CONE ERA IS ABOUT TO BEGIN,” Crispy Cones said in a recent Facebook post. “Crispy Cones is officially opening in Columbia, SC and we’re ready to celebrate with you! Join us FRIDAY, MARCH 27th for our Grand Opening and be among the first to experience our warm, golden pastry cones filled with irresistibly creamy soft serve and toppings you’ll be dreaming about!”

There has been signage up at 1204 Main St. since Aug. 2025 saying that Crispy Cones was coming to the spot. Construction work has been going on inside the store in recent weeks.

Crispy Cones has generated buzz as it has grown, particularly through a segment on the hit ABC TV show “Shark Tank,” in which celebrity investors hear pitches from burgeoning companies. Crispy Cones shops are known for their ice cream and toppings that are served in specially made cones.

“A Crispy Cone is a fresh dough cone, grilled rotisserie-style and covered with cinnamon + sugar or a specialty powder,” the company says on its website. “The cone is filled with your choice of spread, gourmet soft-serve ice cream, fruit, and a variety of delicious toppings. We are revolutionizing the soft serve cone.”

That cone style is particularly popular in the Czech Republic, Crispy Cones notes on its site.

The area near 1204 Main St. is a high traffic corridor, with about 31,000 cars per day traveling down nearby Gervais Street, according to state Department of Transportation data. The area also has heavy foot traffic from the State House, the University of South Carolina, and the various apartments and hotels that are in the downtown core.
