A popular Columbia restaurant that has long been known for cinnamon rolls, breakfast, sandwiches, hot dogs and more is planning a new location in Lexington.

Cinnamon Roll Deli is planning a new shop at 309 S. Lake Drive just off downtown Lexington. It will be located in the building that formerly was home to Cafe Strudel. There is a large banner on the front lawn of the building that reads “Cinnamon Roll Deli - Swirling Soon.”

The new Lexington restaurant comes from the owners of The Devine Cinnamon Roll Deli, Jody Kreush and son Richard Kreush. It has been a well-known spot on Columbia’s Devine Street, just east of Five Points, since it opened a decade ago. The deli has been mentioned on Food Network, and in People Magazine and Southern Living.

Jody Kreush told The State on Friday afternoon that the community’s response to the Devine Cinnamon Roll Deli has been overwhelming since it opened in 2016. As the deli has considered expansion through the years, the owners have been hoping to replicate that community vibe. The Lexington spot on South Lake Drive, with a direct proximity to downtown Lexington and the nearby Icehouse Amphitheater and other amenities, fit the bill, she said.

“We’ve been searching for that type of feel in other neighborhoods in the Columbia area,” she said. “Somewhere that wouldn’t just be a strip mall. We wanted a place with a community feel to it. ... It’s taken us a long time to find a location with the same feel as the Devine Street location. The one in Lexington, we feel, has the kind of warm spirit and vibe of the (Devine Street) location.”

The menu at Cinnamon Roll Deli includes, as you would suspect, a host of cinnamon rolls, including flavors such as apple cobbler, black pepper bacon maple glaze, strawberry cheesecake and bourbon caramel, among others. It also has a deep roster of breakfast sandwiches and grits bowls. At lunchtime the deli has been known for all-beef hot dogs, paninis, sandwiches, soup and more.

Jody Kreush said the menu at the Lexington location will be largely the same as the Devine Street deli, though there may be a few subtle tweaks here and there. She noted that the coming Lexington shop will have a room where customers will be able to watch the dough being rolled for the cinnamon rolls.

The Lexington Cinnamon Roll Deli is partnering with the growing Foundry Hospitality Group in its expansion efforts. The group has continued to diversify its restaurant portfolio in the Midlands.

For instance, Foundry opened the high-end Ember Steakhouse on Main Street in Lexington last year, purchased the West Columbia location of the Cafe Strudel brunch spot in Nov. 2025, and will soon open Slip 53 oyster bar on Saluda Avenue in Five Points. The group also purchased the long-running Pasta Fresca Italian restaurant in Forest Acres earlier this year.

Jody Kreush said Richard Kreush, who is her youngest son and a graduate of the University of South Carolina’s hospitality program, will be working together with Foundry on the Lexington expansion effort, and perhaps other Cinnamon Roll Deli locations in the future.

“Richard has made it possible for the growth of this company,” Jody said. “I wouldn’t be able to do it without my son. He is the actual, physical energy behind all of this.”

An opening date and hiring details for the Lexington Cinnamon Roll Deli will be announced soon.
