The grills are on over in Red Bank.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries, which has restaurants across the U.S., opened the doors last week on a new location at 1781 S. Lake Drive in the Red Bank area of Lexington County. The restaurant is in the Colonnade at White Knoll shopping plaza that also is home to a Tasty Wings & Seafood, an Anytime Fitness, a Tokyo Grill and other businesses.

Banners were fluttering in the breeze announcing that the burger restaurant was “now open” when a reporter rode by on Monday morning. The Red Bank Five Guys is open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, per the company’s website.

There are more than 1,500 Five Guys locations across the U.S., according to data website ScrapeHero. There currently are several Five Guys restaurants in the Midlands, including locations in downtown Columbia, northeast Columbia, Lexington, Forest Acres and Irmo.

Five Guys is known for its burgers, fresh-cut fries, milkshakes, hot dogs, sodas and more. It also offers roasted peanuts for customers to snack on while they wait for their meal. The company started in 1986 in Arlington, Virginia.

The Red Bank area in south central Lexington County has exploded with growth in recent years with new subdivisions, schools, businesses and more. According to state Department of Transportation data, more than 28,300 cars per day traverse South Lake Drive. That roadway is lined with businesses including a Walmart, a Rush’s, a Lizard’s Thicket, a Jeremiah’s Italian Ice and many more retailers.
