Don’t get ready to fire up your grill for Memorial Day.

The National Weather Service says the chance of rain in Greenville for the weekend is increasing.

But with that prediction they offer a caveat — “We certainly need the rain.”

Oh, and it’s going to be hot and humid.

Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 80s to low 90s, which is about 7 to 10 degrees hotter than average with a 50% to 60% chance of scattered showers.

The forecast is for brief showers, but the rain will be heavy.

The Upstate, as well as most of South Carolina, is experiencing severe drought, causing officials to not only welcome the rain but also to urge caution when shooting off fireworks and having outdoor fires.

A man responded to the Weather Service’s rain report on Facebook with optimism.

“I can eat a microwaved hot dog instead of grilled,” he said.
