A well-known hardware store brand will soon open at a new, growing shopping development not far from northeast Columbia.

Bowers Ace Hardware will have a grand opening from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 13 at 118 Spears Creek Church Road in Elgin. It is part of the new Pontiac Towne Center shopping complex that is anchored by a Food Lion supermarket.

The new Elgin Bowers Ace will include a 12,000-square-foot freestanding store and a 4,000-square foot garden center, according to a news release.

“Our goal has always been simple — take care of the customer better than anyone else,” Bowers Ace Hardware President Claude Bowers said in the release. “From knowledgeable associates on the floor to dependable product availability and delivery, everything we do is centered around service. We’re excited to bring that approach to the Elgin community.”

There will be grill giveaways and specials as part of the June 13 grand opening in Elgin, the Ace release said. The store will have some soft opening days in early June, the company said.

This will be the fifth Bowers Ace Hardware store in South Carolina, per the release, following spots on State Street in Cayce, N. Beltline Boulevard in Columbia, Augusta Highway in Lexington and on Kerrison Parkway on Johns Island. A sixth location is anticipated later this year in Irmo, the news release said.

The Elgin Bowers Ace will have many traditional hardware supplies, a large garden center and an extensive grilling supplies section. The release also noted it will be “one of the only full-line Benjamin Moore Premium/Pro paint providers in the Midlands.”

Pontiac Towne Center is a burgeoning development in the Elgin area. Aside from the aforementioned Food Lion and Ace Hardware, it has a number of spaces set to be developed for more businesses. Among others, there is a Tokyo Grill restaurant planned for the development, as well as an Eggs Up Grill restaurant.

The new shopping center is in a busy, growing area at the corner of Two Notch and Spears Creek Church roads. More than 21,000 cars per day traverse that section of Two Notch Road, per state Department of Transportation data, with more than 10,000 cars per day traveling down Spears Creek Church Road nearby.
