Deputies charge Eastover man with murder in Sunday shooting
Richland County deputies have charged a man with murder after he allegedly shot and killed another man Sunday afternoon at a home in Eastover.
Mark Volstromer, 48, was taken into custody custody shortly following the shooting according to Sheriff’s department spokesman Lt. Curtis Wilson.
Keith L. Pruitt, Jr., 62, died as the result of a gunshot wound to his upper body, said Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.
According to Lt. Wilson, deputies responded to a shots-fired call at a residence in the 1100 block of Antioch Amex Church Road, near Megan Court. When deputies arrived, Wilson said they learned of an ongoing dispute between Pruitt and Volstromer, as well as Volstromer’s wife, who was outside of the home Sunday afternoon taking pictures when Pruitt and an acquaintance drove by.
Lt. Wilson said Pruitt stopped and began to exchange words with Volstromer’s wife about a fence line, which is when he exited the truck. Volstromer came out of the residence and shot Pruitt, Lt. Wilson said, adding that Pruitt was transported to an area hospital where he died at 5:38 p.m.
According to deputies’ reports, Pruitt didn’t have a gun and didn’t seem to be threatening, Lt. Wilson said.
Volstromer was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where he’s being held, and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
