Woman hit by train in Columbia is expected to be OK, officials say
After a car got stuck on tracks near Candi Lane and was hit by a train Saturday morning, two women were taken to the hospital – where one of them remained as of Sunday afternoon.
“(The) doctors say she will be OK,” said Jennifer Timmons, spokeswoman for the Columbia Police Department.
Investigators believe the women got out of the car in an attempt to push it off the tracks. As a train approached, shortly before 1 a.m., warning signs and signals were activated, police say.
One woman moved out of the way, but the other woman was struck after the train made contact with the car, police say.
