Woman was shot in the head near Columbia church, the police are looking for answers

A woman who was found shot to death behind a Columbia church was identified by the coroner’s office on Thursday.

Brenda Victoria Jackson, “was found by a citizen in the wooded area behind Rehoboth Restoration Church,” according to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.

The 52-year-old Columbia resident had been shot in the upper body, which Watts said was the cause of death. Watts said the death has been ruled a homicide.

Jackson “died from a gunshot wound to the head,” according to the Columbia Police Department.

The church is located in the 5800 block of Koon Road, near North Main Street.

The police reported “Jackson was seen walking in the area moments before a citizen reported hearing gunfire.”

The Police are investigating the shooting.
