Driver facing charges after she parked Nissan Maxima in a Columbia man’s living room

A woman faces charges Monday after she drove a Nissan Maxima into a Columbia man’s living room around 12:35 p.m. Monday.

The driver was likely speeding and lost control of the vehicle before crashing into a duplex in the 2011 block of Slighs Avenue, just off Harden Street near C.A. Johnson High School, according to the Columbia Police Department.

A male resident was on a living room couch when the car came through the wall. He was taken to the hospital but was not seriously injured, Columbia police said. A photo released by the police department showed the couch had been overturned when the car came barreling through.

The wreck caused up to $20,000 in damage, Columbia police said.

The police had not released the name of the driver or the duplex’s resident early Monday afternoon.

This crash is separate from the Monday morning incident in which the Richland County Sheriff’s Department says a man fled a traffic stop and jumped from a stolen vehicle, sending it crashing into a house in the Apple Valley neighborhood off Broad River Road.

The sheriff’s department was still searching for that suspect Monday afternoon.
