Brothers charged in murder of 33-year-old Columbia woman, deputies say
Two men have been arrested after shooting and killing a 33-year-old Columbia woman in August, according to a statement from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Eugene Ivery, 26, and Forest Rakiem Ivery, 24, were arrested over Labor Day weekend by members of the sheriff’s department’s Fugitive Task Foce and the U.S. Marshalls, according to the statement.
Eugene Ivery and Forest Rakiem Ivery are brothers, according to a sheriff’s department spokeswoman.
On Aug. 12 at about 2:30 a.m., deputies were called out to the 2000 block of Faraway Drive to a shooting, according to the statement. When they arrived, they found Nakya D. Scott, 33, in the home.
Scott had been shot in the upper body, according to the statement. She was taken to Palmetto Health Richland, where she later died from her gunshot wounds, according to an autopsy report.
Eugene Ivery was arrested by deputies and marshals Saturday at about 10 a.m. after he was located at a Motel 6 on Burning Tree Drive, according to the statement.
He was charged with murder and also faces other charges from a past incident, which include domestic violence, harassment and a weapons violation.
Forest Ivery was arrested at about noon Monday on Duke Avenue, according to the statement. He was charged with murder.
The Ivery’s were taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, according to the statement.
