Columbia 20-year-old dies on Christmas Eve after being hit by car, coroner says

After a man was hit by a car and killed on Garners Ferry Road on Christmas Eve, the Richland County Coroner has identified him.

Joshua Scott, 20, of Columbia, died while walking near the 5700 block of the road, according to a statement from the coroner’s office. 

Scott was hit by a car at about 10:50 p.m. on Dec. 23, according to the statement. He was taken to Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital where he died about two hours later on Christmas Eve.

His cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and torso, according to the statement.

The crash is being investigated by the Columbia Police Department along with the coroner’s office.
