West Columbia woman charged in hit-and-run that killed 21-year-old
Troopers have made an arrest in the hit-and-run that killed a 21-year-old man in the Red Bank area of Lexington County over the weekend.
Ashley Burkhard, 33, of West Columbia, was arrested Sunday and charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, according to Lance Cpl. Matt Southern of the S.C. Highway Patrol. She remains in the Lexington County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
A booking photo for Burkhard was not immediately available Monday morning.
Burkhard is accused of hitting Davontaye Laquan Radell Washington while he was walking on Nazareth Road late Saturday, and then driving away, troopers say. Washington died at the scene from his injuries, the coroner said.
Leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death carries up to 25 years in prison, under South Carolina law.
