A third detainee has died in a little more than a month at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center, according to a statement from the Sumter County Coroner.

Larry Hunt, 42, of Sumter, was in the process of being booked into the center when he fell, unresponsive, according to the statement.

Hunt was rushed to the Prisma Health Tuomey (formerly Palmetto Health Tuomey) hospital, where he died, according to the statement. Authorities alerted his family of his passing.

The S.C. Law Enforcement Division was called in to investigate the case, as they already were with the previous two deaths at the jail.

Officials at the Medical University of South Carolina will be performing the autopsy.

Hunt is the third inmate to die at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center since early December. The first inmate was found unconscious and later passed away. The man later was identified at Daniel Browder Jr.

In January, detainee Jermy Antwan Garrett died while under the care of the detention center. His autopsy was done at the Medical University of South Carolina, but his cause of death is currently unclear.
