Police ID suspect in possible road rage shooting near I-77 in Columbia
Columbia police have identified the man they say shot a woman who was in the car with her family during an apparent road rage incident Tuesday.
The suspect is 25-year-old Charles Touhey, the Columbia Police Department said Wednesday morning. Investigators have obtained warrants for Touhey for three counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Police say Touhey was the gunman in a Tuesday shooting incident near Bluff Road and Interstate 77, during which a woman was shot in the arm just before 3:30 p.m. while in a car with her family.
The victim was taken to Greenlawn Memorial Park, where she waited for police to arrive. Her injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, police have said.
Touhey’s vehicle was found Tuesday evening at a motel near Dorn VA Medical Center and Garners Ferry Road, but Touhey was not there. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
Columbia police released a booking photo of Touhey from New York state; however, details about his prior criminal history were not available.
Anyone with information about the incident or Touhey’s whereabouts is asked to call Crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC. Callers will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
