Irmo man charged with murder after body found on I-26 roadside
An Irmo man has been charged with murder in the death of another Irmo man, whose body was found on the side of Interstate 26 on Sunday.
Malik Kluttz, 23, was found dead on the side of I-26 in Laurens County near the Newberry County line on Sunday morning, officials have said.
The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office on Monday identified the suspect as Ervin Chauncey Meggett, according to FOX Carolina. Meggett is charged with murder, according to Laurens County online court records.
Deputies say Kluttz, Meggett and a woman left the Columbia area and went somewhere in North Carolina, WSPA reported on Monday.
As they returned to Columbia, the two men started fighting, during which Meggett shot Kluttz twice, deputies said, according to The Index-Journal of Greenwood.
Meggett was arrested Sunday at his home in Irmo, WIS reported.
Meggett remains jailed in Laurens County.
