Sheriff’s deputy fired, charged after wife said she was abused for months, SC cops say
A veteran South Carolina law enforcement officer was fired after he was arrested on domestic violence charges, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office said.
Sheriff Steve Mueller said he met with the wife of Timothy Dewayne Brasier April 26, and she claimed the longtime deputy had physically abused her for months, WSPA reported.
Although no specific details or incidents were released by the sheriff’s office, it said the meeting produced “credible evidence and information,” according to WHNS.
The 49-year-old Gaffney resident was immediately suspended without pay and surrendered his gun, badge and patrol vehicle, while the sheriff’s office asked the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to lead an investigation, per WSPA.
Brasier was arrested Monday and charged with third-degree domestic violence and public official misconduct in office, jail records show.
Mueller said Braiser, who was hired in 2000, was fired by the sheriff’s office after the arrest, WHNS reported.
Brasier could face more charges as SLED continues to investigate, according to WSPA.
“This incident should remind and show the public that we have no problem in asking for an investigation or arresting any employee who thinks they are above the law and we will always do what is right to protect our officers and our agencies integrity,” Mueller said in a statement shared by WHNS.
