14-year-old charged with murder after another teen was stabbed, Columbia police say

One teenager is dead and another has been charged with his murder, the Columbia Police Department said Wednesday.

A 14-year-old male was charged after a 13-year-old male died after being stabbed Tuesday, police said..

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the victim as Robert Albert Jones IV.

The suspect is unidentified because he is a juvenile.

The stabbing happened at about 3:30 p.m. in the 3600 block of Ardincaple Drive, by the intersection with Falling Springs Road, according to police. That’s close to River Drive, a little more than a mile from Earlewood Park, and near Prisma Health Richland hospital.

Investigators interviewed witnesses and residents in the area who told them “there was an on-going and isolated dispute between juveniles,” a department statement said.

When the two teens argued Tuesday, the dispute escalated into violence with the 14-year-old stabbing the victim with a knife in the chest, according to authorities.

Two people, including the 14-year-old, were detained for questioning Tuesday, according to police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons.

There was no word if there will be charges filed against anyone else.

The 14-year-old suspect is jailed in juvenile petition to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, police said.
