Teen killed in Midlands shooting identified by SC coroner on day of his funeral

A South Carolina teenager who was killed in a shooting a week ago was publicly identified by the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office on the same day of his funeral.

Michael Foster Jr. was involved in a shooting in Winnsboro on Feb. 16, Coroner Chris Hill said Wednesday in a news release. After he was hit by gunfire, the 19-year-old Blackstock resident was taken to the MUSC Fairfield Emergency Department where he died, according to the release.

No other injuries were reported.

There is no word on a shooter, or shooters, or a motive for the gunfire.

In addition to the coroner’s office, the shooting continues to be investigated by the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.

A funeral service was held for Foster, who was nicknamed “Big Mike,” Wednesday at New Home Independent Church in Blackstock, according to an obituary. Foster was buried in the church cemetery.
