Man crashed car into Jimmy John’s over conflict with employee, Columbia police say

A man crashed a car into a Jimmy John’s restaurant Sunday morning and then fled, the Columbia Police Department said.

At about 11:50 a.m., police said the car involved in the collision was found near Decker Boulevard by Richland County sheriff’s deputies and a man was arrested.

The collision happened at the Jimmy John’s at 5910 Garners Ferry Road, police said. That’s a popular shopping district near Interstate 77 which is densely packed with retail businesses and restaurants.

No injuries were reported in the wreck at the sandwich shop, according to police.

Soon after smashing into the restaurant the man backed the vehicle out of the restaurant and left the scene, police said.

Police have not publicly identified the man, or said what charges he will face, only that multiple charges are pending.

The crash was considered intentional, and the motive stems from a conflict the man had with a female acquaintance who works at the restaurant, police said.

The car, which appears to be a black Ford Mustang from a photo shared by police, will be towed and further examined by police, according to the release.
