One person killed and another hurt in overnight crash in Richland County, SC cops say
One person was killed and another was injured Saturday night in a crash in Richland County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 9:20 p.m. on Kennerly Road, said Master Trooper David Jones. That’s in Irmo, about 1.5 miles from Dutch Fork High School.
A 2021 BMW four-door was driving south on Kennerly Road, and when it was near the intersection with Lum Road, it ran off the left side of the road, according to Jones.
The car hit several trees and flipped over, Jones said.
Both the driver and a passenger were taken to an area hospital, where the passenger died, according to Jones.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not identified the passenger.
Further information on the driver’s condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about if either the driver or passenger wore seat belts was not available.
There was no word what caused the car to veer off the road, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Thursday, 428 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2022, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,194 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 30 people have been killed in Richland County crashes in 2022, according to DPS. There were 73 deaths there last year, DPS data shows.
